There are some terms which refer to portable computers, such as: notebook, laptop, tablet pc, desktop replacement, netbook, net top etc. Most of the time, the terms above are confusing especially for us who are not computer-expert. Well, we don’t really need to know the difference between the various terms in specific. But there is time when we should know the terms and recognize the difference between them in order to get the suitable portable computer for us. As an example, if you are a student or a housewife, you should prefer a laptop rather than a tablet pc. They look similar but they have different specifications. In summary, each kind of portable computers has their own weaknesses and their own strength. Certain portable computers are better than the other ones for us in terms of the functionality.

Both the terms Personal Computer and Portable Computer can be abbreviated as PC. However, the word PC is already well known all over the world standing for Personal Computer. A personal computer, nowadays, can be a desktop computer, a laptop computer or a tablet computer. On the other hand, the terms portable computer only refer to all kinds of personal computer which are easy to move and to bring meaning that desktop computer is not one kind of portable computer.

Lately, more and more people prefer a computer which is not only personal but also portable. Therefore, kinds of PC like laptop, tablet pc and so on are more popular than the regular desktop computer. The reason is mainly because portable computers are more flexible to use. People can bring it from home to office or the other way around and many other reasons.

There are two big groups of terms used to describe a computer.
